SANDUSKY AND SOUTHLAND

Two prominent Sapling Stakes candidates, Sandusky and Southland, are referred to by writers in the centres where they are trained as follows: — "Sandusky, the two-year-old son of Jewel Pointer from Bonnie Bingen, is a very docile customer who never exerts himself without being requited to, and he is looking a picture of health. This colt is one of the most promising seen out for some time, and in four starts to date has gained a first, second, and a third placing. A great career is confidently predicted for him. "J. J. Kennerley deserves credit for the manner in which he has persuaded the two-year-old Southland to settle down. Since being gelded Southland has gradually improved. On Monday Southland went like a perfect horse. He has enough ability to win the New Zealand Saoling Stakes. In a trial over approximately 12 furlongs with Southern Chief on the cinder track he paced the first mile in 2min 26sec, which is a good effort on that course. He pulled up very well, and is gaining favour for the big two-year-old event at Ashburton next week."
