DR. ALEXANDER ROBERTSON

The death' of Dr. Alexander Robertson, M.D., CM.,'occurred at hishome, 331 Willis Street, yesterday. He had practised ;in' -Wellington for about aquarter Jf a; century, and although His health -ha'd-been failing for several years-he had continued his duties until recently. -He was aged' 67. Dr. Robertson was a' son of: Dr. Alexander Robertson, senior physician at the Glasgow Infirmary and Profes-i sor' of Medical Science at Glasgow. University for 26 years. Dr. Robertson, sen., had charge of one of the mental hospitals of Glasgow and had a : wide reputation for his modern treatment of insanity, being one of the first to introduce classification of patients and their treatment as ailing people rather than, as prisoners. Dr. Robertson, jun., graduated at Glasgow University. .In His youth "he was attached to the English Civil Service and served for some years in the Gilbert and Solomon Islands, writing a treatise on tropical diseases. He served with the British forces in the South African War as a civil surgeon with the rank of captain and was the only civilian in French's march to Kimberley. After the war Dr. Robertson settled in New Zealand. In the earlier part of the Great War he did important work on one of the medical boards for the examination of recruits. ~ j Dr. ■ Robertson leaves a widow, formerly Miss Elizabeth Waters. His brother, Dr. Hamilton Robertson,, was in practice at Hataitai until, his death ten or twelve years ago. Mrs. W. Martin', of "Linn Cove," Glasgow, is a sister.
