Colder temperatures tomorrow.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for north-westerly to .northerly,winds. These will be moderate to strong generally, gale force still being reached at times in the central provinces. A change to. southerlies. however, will extend from the south over the Dominion by tomorrow'morning. The weather will still be squally and changeable, with heavy rain at times in most districts. Hail and thunder are still probable in places, with snow on the ranges. - Temperatures will become cold, but an improvement in the weather should set in tomorrow in the western districts of the South Island. A very intense and complex westerly depression has been responsible for strong winds from the north-west or west, and gale force has been reached in places about and to the south of Cook Strait. Eastern coastal areas, except for some scattered rain last night, have had mainly fair weather, but elsewhere unsettled and squally conditions have prevailed. Rain has been general, with • heavy falls in places and with, thunder in the Cook Strait area and in the'western districts of the South Island, where since last night conditions have been particularly boisterous. Auckland's weather has been fair and mild with a north-westerly breeze, but it was!foggy there last night. Wellington's weather yesterday was for the most part cloudy and squally, but 3.4 hours ot bright, sunshine were, recorded. A north-westerly gale blew all day and throughout the night. A few light showers fell in the afternoon, but shortly before midnight Very heavy rain fell for 15 m\utes. Since then there have been frequent showers, the fall atKelburn up to 9 a.m. today totalling 44 points. Temperatures have been 'very mild. Christchurch- had a warm day yesterday with a north-westerly breeze. The morning was sunny, but it clouded over somewhat during the afternoon and a trace of rain fell about 2.45. p.m. At 4 a.m. today some heavy rain fell, 10 points in all being recorded. At 9 a.m. today the weather was overcast with a strong north-north-easterly wind.

In Dunedin the morning was sunny, but the afternoon was overcast, a moderate north-westerly breeze pre-r vailing. The weather this morning was cloudy with a gentle ■ northerly breeze.
