BOY PIANIST

FAREWELL CONCERT

A very varied programme was presented in the Town Kail Concert Chamber last night as a farewell concert for Junior Farrell, and the audience seemed to appreciate thoroughly the fare provided for their . entertainment. Junior Farrell himself appeared but once on the programme, playing with composure and understanding several classical pianoforte items. These were a ' Schubert "Impromptu," the first movement' of Beethoven's "Sonata" (Op. 27), and Mendelssohn's "Spinning Song." As an encore he played two compositions, one by Bach and one of his own. His playing proved that beyond all doubt talent is there awaiting the guiding hand of the expert to develop, it into something more. The others who took part in the concert were as numerous as were their items and ages varied. Music was provided by the Hilo Hawaiians; dancing by the pupils of Miss Marjory Newport, Miss iEstclle Beere, and Mr. J. Knowsley; songs, sketches, and various solo items by Miss Una Weller, Miss Phyllis O'Shea, Miss Christina Ormiston, Elizabeth Eade, Patricia Roade, Colleen Walling, Mr. H. F. Wood, Ivan Lawson, Miss Jean Ccrchi, Jack Blake, Helen Smith, and Beryl Richardson. Members of the Wellington Juvenile Theatrical Society added their- quota with sketches, Miss Ethel Gibson, the blind violinist, contributed several items, and Mr. Hector Liardet proved by his magical illusions that seeing is not always believing. The accompanist was Mrs. Charles McDonald, and the pianist for dancing Mrs. Les. Walker Miss Dorothy Spinks also assisted with the accompaniments. Mr. H. Liardet proved a very efficient stage manager. Prior to the interval Mr. G. G. Stewart expressed thanks to all those who had helped to make the concert the success it was. Junior Farrell, he said, I would shortly be going to Sydney to continue his studios under Mr. Altred Kin am-) Mr. Alex Svcrjcnsky.
