Button, who rode Red Manfred last Saturday, will also be on the gelding in his hurdling engagement at Wanganui tomorrow. R. Marsh has been booked for Le Grand and A. Caffyn for International in the Empire The Kurow Jockey Club, which has been struggling for several seasons past to keep going, made a small profit of £25 15s Id during the present season. Windward twice dropped his rider, J. McCauley, when being schooled at Trentham yesterday morning; but McCauley persevered and got him over all the fences. . A recent arrival at Ellerslie is Fersen, winner of the last New Zealand Cup, who is under the care of E. George. Although big in condition, Fersen looks bright and healthy and is in good order to commence a further preparation. The committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club has decided to extend the semaphore at Riccarton, making provision for showing the riders for two races at the same time. The conditions arc similar to those of the last meetings. An unfortunate accident happened at Wingatui on Monday morning. The cross-country rider J. Richards was attending to the hosing of a horse when another lashed out and kicked him on the right side of the face. Richards had his nose broken, and was taken to the hospital. _ He narrowly escaped more serious injury. When the proposed dates for race meetings next season were before the Canterbury district committee last month, April 30 was /anted by South Canterbury and Amberlcy. At a conference of representatives <jf the two clubs, the Amberlcy Racing Club agreed to change to May 7, leaving April 30 for the South Canterbury Jockey Club. These dates have been recommended to the Racing Confer-! ence.
