BIG BAY CRASH
BOARD OF INQUIRY
An inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the air tragedy at Big Bay at the end of last year is to be opened at Invercargill on June 23. The board of inquiry jwill consist of Mr. H. A. Young, S.M., of Christchurch, as chairman, Mr. J. M. Buckeridge, senior assistant. to the Controller of Civil Aviation, and Flight-Lieutenant H. B. Burrell, ofvWigram, Christchurch. The proceedings will be of a private nature.
One person was killed and four' injured when a Fox Moth machine crashed into the surf at Big Bay when attempting to'land. It was conveying a party to the Franz Josef Glacier, and was making a halt to drop a passenger at the trampers' hut at Big Bay. This locality is in the heart of wild and, unsettled country, and is difficult'to reach by land. The body of the victim and the injured were brought out by aeroplanes.
