OVERCROWDED^
HUTT TECHNICAL WORKSHOP
The principal of the Hutt Valley) Memorial Technical' College (Mr. A. McFadyen) reported to the Board ot Managers of the college last night that no further advice had been received from the Department in regard to the provision of extra accommodation. a% the workshop. The Minister, in a let. te- dated April 15, had a'dvlsed ,th«j board that the matter had been re« ferred to his Department for cpnsidera« tion, and that he would communicate with the college again as soon as a decision had been reached.
"The position," said Mr. McFadyen* "is getting most acute. "We have n<* room to carry on^the motor1 engineering class in a practical vruy, and th« motor body building class, is suffering. We also want to develop, the electrical class, but cannot do so for. want oi room." • ,- .
An attempt had been made to overcome the difficulty of overcrowding by, inaugurating Saturday morning classes, but it had not been successful. For the class in panel beating, for which there had been a demand, no pupils had attended on Saturday, and for the other class in oxy-acetylene welding only two.' "Apparently," said the principal, "pupils i are 'not" keen "to coma on Saturdays.
On the motion of Mr. W..V. Dyer. it was decided again to urge on th« Department the need for further accommodation.
