GAOLED IN GERMANY

42 BIBLE STUDENTS

ATTACKS ON FOUNDATIONS

OF STATE

I (Received June 1, 9 a.m.) ' BERLIN, May 31

Forty-two former members of the banned International Society of Bible Students were sentenced to terms of imprisonment ranging from four to eighteen months.

The Judge said he was not punishing them because of their religious convictions, but because they belonged to an organisation whose tenets were similar to those of Communism. Though they sought to hide their aims under the mantle of religion, they tried to undermine the foundations of the State, and therefore their doctrines must constitute anarchy. ,
