WIND AND RAIN

Special forecast for "Wellington;—

Moderate but freshening: northerly .winds,, which later will reach gale force at times.

Weather clouding: over and rain probable tomorrow.

The general forecast for the ensuing twenty-four hours, issued at noon today, is for northerly winds. These will be light to moderate at first in most places, but will freshen, however, especially about and to the south of Cook Strait. The weather will be fair to cloudy at first, but rain will develop shortly in the western and far southern districts of the South Island and will become fairly general within the next 24 to 36 hours. Temperatures will be mild.

Pressure is still high over the New Zealand area, the anticyclone this morning being centred to the east of the North -Island.- A slight depression is passing in the south, but a rather intense one. is advancing across the Tasman Sea. Fine and pleasant weather prevailed yesterday'in most districts. Winds were, light, northerlies blowing south of New Plymouth arid Napier and variables thence northward. By this morning, .however, winds had, freshened in places about and, to the south of Cook Strait, and clouded skies are now more in evidence, especially in districts with, a westerly aspect. Auckland's weather -yesterday was fair, though cloudy, with a light southerly breeze. Since last night ,it has been thick" and misty, and at 9 a.m. today there was no wind. . Wellington had a beautifully fine and mild day with a gentle northerly breeze, seven hours of bright sunshine being recorded. The wind freshened somewhat last night, and the weather this morning was dull and threatening. In Christghurch it was fine and sunny with a fresh easterly wind. The weather this morning was calm ard foggy. ' " It was calm and* bright in Dunedin yesterday morning, but the sky clouded over during the afternoon. At 9 a.m. today it was calm and Cloudy.
