EX-WAITER EXPOSED
ALLEGED MASQUERADE
UNDONE BY HIS MONOCLE
(Received June 1, 9.J5 a.m.)
PARIS, May 31,
Lack of facility in manipulating a monocle proved the undoing of a former waiter, Felix Broquet, who is alleged to have masqueraded as Major de Mattei, under which name he was betrothed to the Princess.Engalytechev, widow of a Tsarist consul at Chicago.
Police say that-Broquet, who was a dashing figure in society, hoped to make a coup of £40,000 at the expense of three Parisian business men to finance a world tour on his honeymoon.
