i /i. professional ', welterweight boxing contest last night between Billy Martin/ Australia;- and Stan Jenkins^ Oamaru. was won by Martin by a knock-out in' the-eighth round. Martin ■wasclearly, the superior boxer from the outset,-and rie'ver at any stage was he in danger. On the contrary, after obtaining an early measure of his opponent he permitted Jenkins to tap him on the head, realising that the New Zealander*s blows Jacked sting.
| There was only a fair attendance, and the public must have been disappointed with: the contest, as'it was too one-sided to be entertaining. After concentrating,mostly K qn body punching, Martin sent his opponent down for a count of seven in the eighth round, and then finished him with a left hook to the chin. .; Jenkins, was counted out.
