THE EXHIBITION
MEETING OF DIRECTORS
Arrangements for the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition were discussed yesterday at a meeting of the board of directors of the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition Company. The Mayor (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop) presided.
Negotiations with .-■■ the, - aviation authorities in'connection with the restriction of the height of Exhibition buildings were satisfactorily completed, and arrangements were made with the City Council for the necessary levelling of the site. The matter of the acquisition of an area of land' from the Rongotai College Board of Governors ..was..Left in the hands of the works committee. ' ■ .
'An < attractive provisional lay-out was submitted by the architect, Mr. Edmund Anscombe,'; and met with general approval,, subject to a few slight alterations, It was decided, to adopt a, design, symbolic of.New Zealand and incorporating a , kiwi and a.fern leaf, as an official seal, and for publicity and other purposes. Advisory committees were set up to deal with, the matters of transport, amusement, and sports. The general manager, Mr.C. ,Hainsworth, reported that concessions had been granted for the conveyance of exhibits by the Harbour Board, Railway Department, and shipping companies. The estimates of receipts and expenditure prepared by the general manager were submitted and approved and if, was decided that a regular meeting, day : be fixed as the, first Monday in. each month.
