Ngaio Plunket Ball.
A large number of invitations have been issued lor the Ngaio Plunket Society's ball, which will be held at Ngaio iii the middle of the week. An excellent orchestra will be in attendance, and it is'anticipated that there will be a large number of dancers present. A New Departure. A. pony, gymkhana for children is a new departure which has been' arranged at "Bangor," the home of Major G. F. Hutton, at Malvern, Canterbury. The "Press" states that competitors attended from all parts of the district as well as hundreds of spectators who thoroughly enjoyed the day's sport. The' competitors, ranging from little ones of five and six years old, are stated to have handled their ponies with admirable skill. The events were divided into three rings—one for children of eleven and under; one for children over eleven and under sixteen, and another for those over sixteen. This made room for some adults who were anxious to try their luck. The day passed off with the greatest success and enjoyment. The members of the Malvern Anglican church provided afternoon tea.A Wonderful Woman. A good story comes from London of Dame Enid Lyons, who is always a surprise to an admiring world because she has had and reared eleven children, and yet managed to do all sorts of other things in her time—helping her world in a wonderful way. , It-is stated that when she was in England before,' the late King George V askedher for the recipe for being able to do so much and yet look so well and happy. She smiled and said: "A willing horse can always' pull a:little more." "Until its back breaks?" returned his Majesty, whereupon Mrs. Lyons (her smile broadening) actually turned her back upon the King and said, "See how broad it is." • News From Traveller. Letters received by friends in "Wei-: lington from Miss Lambie state that she had an uneventful voyage to America.
