Some films , come-before^ the public with the names of one or two famous mars ihthfe "east as guarantee of good entertainment: others base their claim fol- recognition on the name of a wellknown author, producer, or director. But few Can offer such a combination of all the talents as does the United Artists release. "Fire Over England, which': will -start" tomorrow at the K.u* bil'nie Kinema. In the first place "Fire Over England" is based-on the widely-read novel of the same name by A. E. W. Mason;" it-stars.the great English actress Flora Robson in the role of Queen Elizabeth; it has such wellknown names as Leslie Banks, Raymond Massey, Laurence Olivier, and Morton Selton in support, and it marks the debut of the lovely new heroine, Vivien Leigh, who it is stated will soon be a star of the first rank. The film was made by Alexander Korda in conjunction with Erich Pommer, and Clemence Dane wrote the dialogue. "Fire Over England" won the League of Nations Award for merit by the Unanimous vote Of 52 member nations. A stirring romance of the most spacious and important times of Queen Elizabeth, this picture presents a brilliant composite portrait of England's greatest Queen against vivid and spectacular scenes of pageantry, plotting, espionage, -■. swashbuckling adventure, and hair-breadth escapes, all leading up to the magnificent climax of the defeat of the Spanish Armada. Although the canvas of the action is so wide, the huriian love story of a daring English courtier (Laurence Olivier) for one of the Queen's lovely ladies-m----waiting . (Vivien. Leigh) .is never dwarfed. It is, in fact, for this very reason that each phase, of the picture is so perfectly balanced that it emerges as such splendid entertainment. BOXING ON THURSDAY. - ■■ __^——♦ >— "Hermanagildo Baguio," abbreviated to "young Gildo" and known to boxing followers .as the "Filipino Flash,' Will meet Clarrie Hayner over fifteen rounds at the Town Hall on Thursday next. Gildo is a countryman of the versatile Silvlno Jamito, who several years back built up the reputation of being one of the best crov/riplcasers" to perform before a N v Zealand boxing public.
