NEW FIRE STATION
ADDITIONAL COSTS £15,000 LOAN REQUIRED The Wellington Fire Board this morning decided to seek the approval of the Loans Board for the raising of a loan of £.15,000 to meet added costs in erecting, equipping, and completing the Central Fire Station. The chairman (Mr. N. W. Nelson), in his report, stated that it was hoped to be in occupation of vthe new brigade headquarters in the next few months. While the residential quarters were well forward, there was further,work required to complete the main building before the board could enter into' possession. The many detail matters during construction 'had had the close attention of the board's building subcommittee. ; "Additional wage and other costs consequent on legislation and also accessory equipment," said Mr. Nelson, "have entailed increases over the amount originally raised, and a supplementary loan, is to be arranged to cover these items.; "The new central fire station, when completed, will be; the best equipped and the most up to1 date in the Dominion, and the needs-of the Capital City in fire protection will be enabled to be served to an adequate degree with its occupation by fee brigade." The superintendent (Mr. C. A. Woolley) said it was anticipated that the new premises would be ready for occupation by the end of July.
