ECKENER'S OPINION OF THE ZEPPELIN WASHINGTON, May 27. Dr. Hugo Eckener, designer of the Zeppelin Hindenburg,. told the Senate Sub-committee for. Military Affairs that he believed the Zeppelin type of airship would never again be in need ' in Germany as an instrument of war- ' fare owing to the fact that it would ' be an easy target for fighting aero- j planes. -J He said England had abandoned her J military airship programme for the ; same reason. • Dr. Eckener denied that by using ' helium it would be impracticable to ! lift Zeppelins. He requested that Ger- J many be permitted lo use it for com- ' morcial purposes. • '
