PROPER CARE
BASQUE CHILD REFUGEES
(British Official Wireless.) (Received May 27, ,1.30 p.m.)
RUGBY, May 26.
In the course of a brief debate in the House of Lords last night on the refugee Basque children, it was stated that the British Government had satisfied itself that the children would be properly looked after. \ They were now in a temporary camp near Southampton to which the general public were not admitted. They would leave only upon medical advice and with the approval of the local health authorities. The medical examination upon their arrival had been specially searching, and had revealed a surprisingly good standard of health. When they left the children would be placed in fairly large batches in institutions where they would be supervised by Basque priests and teachers.
