PEACE CONGRESS
YOUTH MOVEMENT
A rally of Wellington youth interested in the furtherance of world pe*e last night set up a temporary committee to form in New Zealand an affiliate of the World Youth Congress Movement. This is an organisation which grew out of last year's Youth Peace Congress at Geneva. The temporary committee is to submit detailed proposals for the establishment of a permanent body to another meeting of delegates on July 7. Miss M. Black, of Dunedin, who ; attended the Youth Peace Congress at Geneva last year as an observer, said that 37 countries were represented. Italy and Germany were not represented, their delegates being at the last moment unable to attend. She described the work of the congress. Professor F. L. W. Wood, who presided, said that his impression was that the work of the congress had been definitely constructive, and advantage should be taken of it in New Zealand. Mr. M. Riske said that a basic idea of the means of arriving at peace had to be found. Unity to an ideal was not enough.
The following temporary committee was set up:—Professor F. L. W. Wood, Dr. J. Nicol, the Rev. Father R. J. G. Hughes, Misses H. Valentine, M. Gibbs, E. Bennell, and Messrs. M. Riske, C. Barrington, and B. J. Barhao.
