Sir Roderick Jones, chairman of Reuters, addressing the Empire Press Union conference, described news as "this friction-producer which is going up everywhere continuously like a series of rockets, the combustions and particles igniting causing other explosions until we are faced with something, alarming which inclines us to finish up by saying 'Let-us pray.'"
