Yesterday was .fine in most districts, but during, the night cloud increased generally, and rain has since fallen in the northern and northeastern'portions of the North Island, in the far south, and also in a few places about Cook Strait. In the extreme north some rather heavy falls have occurred. Winds have been mainly north-easterly or northerly and light to moderate, but by this morning they had freshened somewhat in the Auckland province. ' In Auckland it was fair yesterday, but the sky gradually Clouded over and rain has fallen there since last night, with moderate to fresh north-easterly-winds. The rainfall amounted to 19 points. * :

In "Wellington the morning was •sunny, but it clouded over ill the afternoon and the northerly wind freshened somewhat.
