COUNTRY LIFE
THE SOCIAL SIDE
AMENITIES OF CITY
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
PALMERSTGN.N., This Day.
A new endeavour for the Farmers' Union was visualised by Mr. R. Seivers, Makara-Hutt provincial executive, when speaking at the 'Farmers' Union conference at Dannevirke yesterday. . , -.:•:.., ■■ ■-■.;, -. ••■'The objects of the union must, in the final analysis', be to make rural life as attractive as.it is possible to make it, and approaching in amenities nearer to the life^of the city-man. There is no question that we: ban do this," he said. "Thei work of the Women's Division isa wonderful example of What can be done on the social side to bring this about It is my belief that the work of the Farmers' Union shouldbe to have on the economic or the material side the objects of the Women's Division in making the life of the country dweller easier and happier. We can do a great deal "towards this merely by banding together and.fostering that social spirit which should exist in all country districts., In this directon alone the union can achieve a very great deal merely b# being in. existence. If, however, we are willing to work earnestly and steadily, who is to say that we cannot make life in the country every bit as enjoyable and more than it' is in the towns. If we foster this organisation and see that it works properly that aim will be very easy of achievement." ■;■■ ;
