MANY OVERSEAS VISITORS
"The Wellington Travel Club expresses the personality of the New Zealand people with their kindliness and generous hospitality," said Mrs. A. B. Marcus at a reception given by the club on Tuesday afternoon in the Palm Lounge of the Hotel St. George for she and her husband and some of the principals of' the Marcus Show. (Wariganui), Miss C. Evatt (Blenheim), £]Mrs. Shipton (Wanganui), Mrs. Wilson r( and Miss Wilson (Dunedin), Mrs. Moye J;W. n Stevens (America), and Mrs. (Auckland). "!•■ Mrs. M. Michael, who comes from ' the same town as Lady Bledisloe, spoke '- briefly about the Swansea and the work and recreations of the Welsh people. Mrs. Hans.Dietler also spoke ' about her native country. Most people, said Mrs. Dietler, think of Switzerland ', as a place of perpetual ice and. snow, ' but in actual fact they had ■ lovely I summers when people did (heir skiing < in bathing suits, and when the moun- ; tain slopes, instead of being covered '. in snow, were covered , with white '. crocuses and a few weeks later with '<. the purple of the mountain rose (the i rhododendron). Almost everyone in '■ Switzerland spoke English, said Mrs. ; I Dietler. The Swiss considered educa- > tion very important and languages ', were given spepial attention, English, ' French, and Italian being taught in all ! the schools. Miss Wilson, of Dunedin, sang two delightful songs and Mr. Her- : bert Wood also sang. Their accompanist was Miss Dorothy Spinks. The ■ lounge t was looking very gay with attz'actively-arranged bowls of bright flowers, and an excellent tea was served. Mr. G. G. Stewart was the chairman and- Mr?. Marshall Macdonald. Mrs. Vernon Sutherland, Mrs. A. W. O. Travers, and. Miss N. E. Donovan (secretary) were the hostesses. /
