WOMEN'S DIVISION

NEW BRANCH FORMED

An interested^igtoup: of women met in the.'home oi Mr^Balmer.at'MeJu'ritr on Monday afternoon, arid ibrmed a new branch •of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union. Ivirs. Hawthorne, .president -of the Upper Hutt branch,-and also president of the recently-fornied provincial exe-.-cutive incorporating branches: of the division adjacent to Wellington, presided. Mrs. Hawthorne outlined the purpose of the' division for. the benefit of intending members. Mrs. A. B. Smith, Dominion secretary, recalled interesting iacts and-figures in connec--tion with work already, done by the division throughout New Zealand through its 500 branches. Officers were elected as follows:—President, .Mrs. R. V. Brown .(Waterloo Road), and Secretary, Mrs. A. C. Stevenson, (Avalon Crescent, Taita). The first'" meeting of the newlyestablished branch will be held in June in' the Anglican. Schoolroom. Among those present at the meeting on Monday were (in addition to visiting officials)/ Mesdames Yerek, jun., Yerek, sen., Camden Smith, Burr, Gaulter, Manderson, Balmer, Stevenson, and Brown. A*hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mrs. Hawthorne for presiding, to Mrs. Pfeshaw (provincial organiser) for her working in organising the meeting, and to Mrs. Balmer for kindly giving the use of her room'for the meeting. • ■ .
