EGMONT-WANGANUI HUNT
(From "The Post's" Representative.) WANGANUI, May 26| One of the most popular meets' of the Egmont-Wanganui hunting season is that held at "Waihau," the home .of Air., and Mrs. W. R. S. Brewer,-.at Waverlcy. As usual the hounds threw off just below the homestead, and during the day a number oi fast and exciting runs were enjoyed by both the hunt and a very large number of spectators. The attendance of hunt members and spectators numbered nearly 300. Afternoon tea was served at the hospitable homestead, and the singing of "For They are Jolly Good Fellows" finished off the day. Dr. Simmons, Master of the Hunt, urged everyone to qualify suitable horses for the Hunt Club race meetings, instancing the success of an ex\Vaveritey hunter, Don Erma. Then he asked for homes for hound puppies, until they were quiet enough to join the pack. Victoria League. The .annual meeting of the Wanganui branch of the Victoria League was held on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. N. R. Bain read a letter of appreciation from the central executive committee of the Victoria League, London, expressing to the Victoria Leagues in New Zealand its deep appreciation of the warm and generous reception accorded sto Its secretary. Miss Drayton, on her recent visit to New Zealand. The league unanimously decided "to give assistance during the exhibition to be staged in July by the Disabled Sailors' and Soldiers' Mutual Association. Mrs. Norman Bain, wlio has been president for six years, declined nomination again, and Mrs. A. B: Boyes, who had been the hon. secretary for several years, was elected to the position. Other officers were elected as follows; Vice-presidents, Mesdames N. Bain, H. D. Bates, and Miss Gibbons; secretary and treasurer. Miss M. Newcombe; council, /Mesdames HayCampbell, G. J. Adams, P. Graham, O. Hoist, L. Brinkman, W. Merewether, S. R. McCallum, A. -Walker, L. Hill, P. H. Hartland, H; C. Jenkins, E. A. Wotton, F. P. Talboys, Misses Stanford, Harrison, Laird, and Davis. "This year," stated the annual report, "in addition to our already large list of people to whom books and magazies are sent, we have added two Public Works Department camps. Other activities are Unking up children by means-'of correspondence, sending toys ana books to the leper station" and also to Sister Elsie for her work among the Maori children up-river, organising Poppy Day sales." Personals. Miss Gibbons has returned from a brief visit to' Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. Alt Gibbons .and Miss Barbara Gibbons are visiting Mr. and Miss Gibbons at ■"HSturangi:" Miss Pat Ryan is staying with Mr. and Mrs. P.
