ON TRENTHAM TRACKS

FOXTON ASPIRANTS

TEAM REDUCED TO FOUR

(By "Rangatira.")

Trentham's hand for the Foxton Meeting on Saturday has been reduced by two, and only" four 'horses from the centre will now be! at the fixture. There was consequently not a great deal of serious work'done this morning, though the numerous youngsters being prepared for the new season give the track a very busy appearance these days. After a'heavy fog, the going on the trial grass was easy and greasy.

Rona Bay, with W. Doyle ia the saddle, *vas required to do a round at a strong three-quarter pace. . This light-fleshed mare'is thriving on her racing and should again give -a good account of herself in the Foxton Cup, in which Doyle will,be .her pilot as usual, with a 51b apprentice allowance. ■ I

Liane (B. E. Edwards) was sent six furlongs in company: with Myriam (S. Wilson) and Galteemore (A. Bennet), and, though she finished on better than Galteemore, she was outclassed by Myriam, who ran right away at the close to be four lengths in front at /the post.' The full distance took lmin 23sec and : the last half-mile 56see. Liane -is as yet without a rider for Foxton, and Galteemore is not now to make the trip. Myriam will race next at Wanganui.

Youssipof (S. Wilson) wap never going too well .on the greasy surface in taking lmin 26sec. for.the last six of seven furlongs, the final half-mile in 57secl He will fun in;the hack distance event on Saturday in'preference to the sprint. ... Trentham's other candidate for the meeting will be Red Sun, who, with P. Burgess in the saddle, was schooled over a round of the hurdles, this morning and gave his usual faultless exhibition. Afterwards he was galloped a round at strong working pace. C. Thomson is to ride him in Saturday's hurdles. .';.'. Essex did only serviceable work and Will not be fulfilling his Foxton engagement. His trainer .believes that he is still too lusty; to be able to do himself justice" in a:race.

The best half-mile of the morning was registered by Mr. E. Kiddiford's Intruder gelding, who broke 53sec for the distance. Happy Heels went along we.ll in finishing in front of Settlement, with the Lackham—Atruda filly beaten off, after covering six furlongs comfortably in lmin 26sec, the last halfmile in 57sec. Good Sun, who'has recently resumed work, dame home the last three furlongs 'in 45sec. Nightlass (C. Burgess); and Windward (M. Reardon1) were given further 'education as .'hurdlers, but after much perseverance both finished , the morning under a 'dunce's cap. They got ove- two or three fences, with considerable coaxing.: ■

Bonnie Rollox was out exercising on the lead. He is quite well, but it may be some time before he races again. The report that was circulated about a joint filling after Hawera was incorrect. ' : ■ . , . _. Alunga, who had to miss his-Car-terton engagement because of1 a pricked rear foot, is back in . work , but'only exercising, and his proposed/trip, to Wanganui is now very doubtful. Korero, who went amiss last week, will not be racing again . for some time, and C. Goulsbro', who was to have ridden him in the Cornwall Handicap at EUerslie,',will probably now be on the ' centre's other candidate, Boomerang1, who. has remained in .".the north. ■ . ■ -Additional riding engagements for Foxton are:—S1. 'Wilson, Davistock, Golden Chest, Youssipof, and Lady; Zoha; P. Burgess, Silent Acre and Erebus; W. Doyle, Eona Bay and Happy Hunting-.! These riders will also be at the ' Wanganui Meeting next week, and A. .Jenkins, who intended going' to Ellerslie, will also now attend Wanganui instead.
