FLIGHT DISPUTE
MRS. WYNDHAM AWARDED £549 (Received May 26, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 25. The aviatirix Mrs. Jill Wyndham ob/ained judgment in the King's Bench Division for £549, with costs, against Flying-Officer D. Llewellyn, with whom she broke the record for a flight to Cape Town in 1935, the Judge refusing an adjournment on account of Llewellyn's absence. Counsel for Mrs. Wyndham stated that she pawned her jewellery for £610 to finance the flight and gave this to Llewellyn on the understanding that he would repay the loan and also pay her half the bonuses resulting from the flight. She also defrayed his hotel expenses in Cairo and Cape Town. He did not repay the money, and she had to sell her motor-car in order to make a bank deposit against payments. He failed to keep appointments to make a settlement. Mrs. Wyndham denied having said that if she was not allowed to go she would wreck the 'machine.
