CONJECTURE USELESS

TRADE WITH U.S.A. PROPOSED AGREEMENT (Received May 26, noon) LONDON, May 25. Commenting on the concern expressed by the President of the Associated Chamber of Commerce of New Zealand (Mr. M. G. C. McCaul) regarding the Anglo-American, trade proposal the New Zealand Prime Minister (Mr. M. J.SaVage)-told the Australian Associated Press Agency that as no details were available it was useless at present to conjecture on its effects on the Ottawa' Agreements. Expansion of trade was desirable, but .New Zealand's first job was to reach the best agreements possible with the British Commonwealth of Nations. "To those in New Zealand who have riot followed developments with regard to' the Ottawa; Agreements and Empire trade, and who have viewed the.agreements as establishing a state of affairs so desirable as not to require any alteration, the news concerning a proposed Anglo-American agreement which must'affect the Ottawa Agreements will come almost as a shock," said Mr. McCaul in> an interview with a "Post" representative yesterday. He said, however, that there were certain points to be considered.
