-, r* CENTRE EXECUTIVE ~ IMPROVED FINANCES A meeting of the executive" of the Wellington Bowling Centre, held last evening, was well attended, delegates being irequired to approve the annual report^ for presentation to members and vote for the election of seven nonofficial members of the New Zealand Bowling Council to represent the North Island. The 'president of the centre (Mr. W. Gilbert) presided. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. T. Inglis, of the Easbourne Club, and a former member of Wellington and Victoria Clubs; and of the late Mr.' W. Miller, a former member, of the1 Wellington Club, was carried.in'the usual manner. Mr. M. O. V. Dimock, delegate for the Porirua Bowling Club, tendered his resignation as a member of the executive. The president and Mr. H. G. Mayer spoke of the good work that had been done by Mr. Dimock for the; clubs he had been associated with,. the centre, and bowling in general, and . it was agreed that a minute of appreciation should be recorded. Mr. Dimock said that he had only done what many other bowlers were doing, and his efforts had been a pleasure. It was agreed that the centre should present certificates for the senior, junior, and country pennants, and for the junior singles, the certificates won by junior champion of champions not to count for the centre's gold medal. ■The report presented for approval stated that the' membership of the twenty-three clubs affiliated to the centre'was 1729, an increase of thirtyone ov s er the previous year. The exceptionally unseasonable^ weather experienced during the season had caused some disarrangement of the fixtures, but all were brought to a successful conclusion. During the season a team from the centre visited the Wa'irarapa Bowling Centre, and visits were received from ■ the Manawatu Centre, and the party of Queensland bowlers who toured New Zealand in January- ' ■ .- '• " . The report referred .to the various competitions held; in. the. centre during the past season, and to .the, New Zealand bowling championship .tournament, which was held in Wellington in January. . The entries for^the centre tournaments and competitions were good, and the financial position of Iftie centre was greatly improved during the year. At the end of the last financial year there was a bank oy^r-. draft of over £43, and in-August this was over >£ 83.' The season had proved so successful financially that the centre new had a credit balance. ■ The treasurer (Mr. J. Kershaw) _ reported that there was a credit of just over £25 in hand. The report was approved after the delegates had agreed that a paragraph should be added calling "attention to the need for bowsers to appear m competitions . dressed in flannels and ;the: meeting concluded Mr. ■Mayer announced that he'had decided to withdraw from the executive. His association 'with other delegates had been very- pleasant and he regretted having to.make such;a break, but he :had come .to. the conclusion .. that. it iwfls;;time he'took arrest. ;_;- ---•'-' Mr* S M., Stone',-IMr. Gilbert, and -Mi". .Dimock .all expressed, /regret at Mr'''Mayer's decision and made eulogistic references to his many services to bowling. , . After the meeting the delegates balloted for the non-official members of the New Zealand council, but as other centres also take part in the election the result was not announced.
