NEW PARAMOUNT THEATRE.
'■The Green Pastures."
The next few days will be ' hectic ones for. the small army of workmen engaged on the job. pf renpvating and redecorating.the New-Paramount Theatre for its reopening on Friday night next with that remarkable and highlycontroversial film,.-"The - Green Pastures." The management of the New Paramount announces that the premiere of "The Green Pastures" will take place at the 8 o'clock performance on Friday and thereafter there 'will be two performances daily, at 2.1.5 and 8' p.m.., Np more fitting picture than "The Green Pastures" could" have been secured to inaugurate the' New Paramount's "first release" policy, for 'the picture has .undoubtedly been at the back of .everybody's mind for'months'.' "The Green. Pastures" has been'criticised in many: places because it verir; tures to personify the Lord as a negro preacher; the film, was banned;ih England, Canada, and Australia, but the bans were subsequently lifted in the two former countries. The whole story is in the light of a spiritual vision, rather beautiful in its simplicity and its calmness, and impressively philosophic. There can be little criticism of the acting performances.because the players are unknown and because the roles they play can be. scarcely criticised: "The Green Pastures" commenced its New Zealand career "by breaking records in Auckland, where it was applauded by a wide section of the community. Along with numerous improvements now being carried out at the New Paramount is the installation of Western Eleclric's Mirrophonic Sound, which is claimed to provide perfect reproduction of the original which hitherto was merely a scientific ideal. : . ,
