FIXTURE AT HAWERA

HON. P. FRASER'S ADDRESS (By Telegraph—Press Association.) ,•...' HAWERA, This Day. The Acting Prime Minister (the Hon. P. .Fraser) officially opened the 27th South Taranaki Winter Show last night. He spoke of the merit of the educational exhibits and as Minister of Education referred to the consolidation of schools. He appealed for the full co-operation.of people who could rise above parochialism and animosity and give country children equal opportunities with those in the larger centres. Mr. Fraser commended the system now in practice of providing road transport for secondary and technical school pupils as ,well as primary scholars. Mr. Fraser later attended a social arranged by the Hawera branch of the Labour Party. Before his departure for Dannevirke this morning, he inspected the Technical High and primary schools. Dairy .produce awards at the show arenas follows: —

Kahui Dairy Co. (N. J. Terry) won the Taranaki championship for white or coloured pheese. The Lonsdale Challenge Cup went to Rai Valley (T. Aris), with Pahiatua (T. Heayns) runner-up. Rai Valley also won the New Zealand Rennet Company's Cup. The gold medal for the maker scoring most points in open competition in the butter section .was won by J. A. Singleton (Pio Pio), 284.2 points, and the gold medal lor South Island competitors was won by .C. J. Ellery (Golden Bay), with && j points.
