MYSTERIOUS FATALITY

Evidence that while a taxi was being driven down Lambton Quay on the evening of May 9, something struck and smashed the left front-door window and that subsequently a mans ■ body was found lying on the roadway, was given at an inquest today concerning the death of John James Bruen. The Coroner, Mr. E. Gilbertson, returned a verdict that Bruen, who was a painter died at Wellington Hospital on May 9 from severe injuries received the same evening when knocked down /by a taxi driven by Clarence Wahren. After hearing evidence, the Coroner said it was a mystery to know how the accident happened. Sub-Inspector C. E. Roach conducted the inquest, Mr. A. J. Mazengarb appeared for the driver of the taxi, and Mr. C. J. O'Regan for the relatives of the deceased. >.
