HOUSEHOLD REMOVALS BY RAIL. 72 PER CENT. FOR PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS. SERVICE APPRECIATED.
In a review of the householdremovals service of the Railways Department the General Manager, Mr. G. H. Mackley, mentions that among a number of letters of appreciation received a prominent Church organisation for which the Railways Department recently effected eighteen individual household removals to and from various parts of the Dominion wrote to him only a week ago as follows:— "IT IS WITH PLEASURE I INFORM YOU THAT I HAVE RECEIVED MANY EXPRESSIONS OF APPRECIATION OF THE SPLENDID MANNER IN WHICH THE REMOVALS HAVE BEEN EFFECTED BY YOUR STAFF, WHICH HAVE FULLY JUSTIFIED MY RECOMMENDATION TO MY COMMITTEE THAT THE WORK SHOULD BE ENTRUSTED TO YOUR DEPARTMENT." This organisation has also indicated Its intention of using the Department's services for at least double the number of removals in the coming year. That these services are more largely availed of by private individuals than by Government Departments is exem- '■ plified by the fact that, for the year ended March 31, 1937, actually 72 per cent, of the household-removals effected by the Railways Department during that period were done for private individuals as the result of business won in open competition on the basis of price and quality of service.—Published by arrangement.
