At a price believed to be about £900 a foot, the Bank of New South Wales is reported to. have purchased a property in Queen street next the Auckland Savings Bank. Following its recent purchase of two adjoining Queen Street properties as a site for the erection of a large bank building, its latest transaction is further evidence of intensification of banking activity, interpreted in some quarters as representing an intention to extend the forms of business in .which it now operates. . When approached on the question, Mr. N. H. Packer,. acting, manager in Auckland., would neither deny no"r confirm the purchase.
