DERBY FAVOURITISM
According to latest afivice to Australian papers, Le Ksar holds his place as Derby favourite, with Perifox second favourite and Le Grand Due third favourite. The others most in demand were Solfo, Goya H, Fairford, The Hour,. Gash Box, and Mid-day Sun,
seasons. Now eight years old, he is a chestnut gelding out of* a mare by St. Amans, and that is all that is known of his pedigree. The owner of the grandam was killed at the war and it became impossible afterwards to certify who the mare was, other than that she was a thoroughbred. Saint Musk was bred by Mr. J. D. McLaren, of Te Aroha, and after several changes of ownership he is >how being raced in partnership by Messrs. L. C. Picot, of Ngaruawahia, and J. B. McNaughton, of Rangariri. It is probable that he learned his jumping prowess in the hunting field.' There is said to be not a great deal of him, but he can evidently go over the big fences all right and it; will be of interest to observe his further progress, •as the small jumpers sometimes go a long way in the game while not too far up in the weights. He is in the Great Northern Steeplechase on the minimum.
