"BOOTS OF THE ASCENSION"
A young English girl told her father on her return from Switzerland recently that there was a notice in the hotel which baffled her. It read: "It is defended to circulate the hotel in boots of the ascension." It was only after a certain amount of research that her father discovered what the prohibition was. The sight of his own heavy, spiked climbing boots gave him the clue. ■ C. W.
