DE LUXE THEATRE.
Friday's Big Programme,
Continuing in the tradition of "It Happened One Night," "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town," and "Theodore Goes Wild," the - Columbia' Studios will present on Friday at the De Luxe Theatre a new comedy-drama entitled "More Than a Secretary," with Jean Arthur and George Brent in the star roles. In addition to the popular principals, the picture has an exceptionally strong supporting cast including Lionel Stander, Reginald Denny, Ruth Donnelly, Dorothea Kent, and Geraldine Hall. Now one of the screen's foremost comediennes, Miss Arthur tries her hand at another comedy role in "More Than a Secretary," with George Brent appearing as a fine foil in the first light role he has had since "Living on Velvet." "More Than a Secretary" tells of the exploits, of a be-, spectacled, prim proprietress of a business school who is forced to take a position as private secretary to the editor of a health magazine, a violent health addict. What happens when the two undergo a mutual humanising treatment provides the comedy theme on which the amusing situations and sprightly dialogue are based. A battle between two giant men, circled by brawny lumberjacks and towering trees, provides the climax of Universal's "Conflict," starring John Wayne, which will be the other feature film. The film is based on Jack London's memorable story, "The Abysmal Brute." A romantic appeal is given the exciting drama, which features Jean Rogers opposite John Wayne, The cast includes such excellent players as Bryant Washburn and MargareJ Mann, who were formerly stars in their own right.
