OYSTERS AT AKAROA
The investigation of possible supplies c' oysters in Akaroa Harbour will be undertaken as soon as the Marine Department is able, according to a statement made by Mr. A. E. Hefford, Chief Inspector of Fisheries, on Saturday, states the Christchurch "Press." . There were oth^r centres, he .said, namely, in Queen Charlotte Sound and in the North Island, where it was thought oyster beds might be developed, but investigation was necessary. At the moment the Foveaux Strait beds were supplying the market comfortably, and New Zealand was one of the few countries, if not the only country, working natural beds. On the Continent and in England the natural beds had been depleted and "farming"' of oysters had to be undertaken.
