TRAIN DELAYED

DRAW-BAR FAILURE

The failure of a draw-bar on one of the leading carriages on the Woodville express, which left Wellington at 7.50 a.m. on Saturday caused some delay to the 260 passengers, most of whom were en route to the Carterton races. Near Cross Creek the train, which was going down the Rimutaka Incline, stopped as the result of the bar failure tightening the brakes. There were no passengers beyond Masterton. Most of the passengers walked to Cross Creek, where they were picked up and taken on, being delayed about an hour. As the line was blocked for the rail car Arawa en route to Wellington, its passengers were brought on by railway buses, and the Arawa took on the running through to Woodville.
