CIO. VICTORY

STEEL WORKERS' REFERENDUM

PITTSBURG. May 22.

In a referendum conducted under the Wagner Act, 27,000 employees of the Jones arid Laughlin Steel Corporation chose the union affiliated to the Committee for Industrial Organisation as the exclusive bargaining agency, the affirmative votes totalling 69 per cent.

Leaders of the Committee for Industrial Organisation hail this as a smashing victory, especially as the Government supervised the election. It is predicted that similar action will be taken in other steel companies and in other industries.

Federal officials expressed satisfaction at the peaceful settlement instead of strife and ; violence.
