INCIDENCE OF TAXATION
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—-Your recent article apropos the above subject, must have made good reading to many hard-pressed taxpay-: ers, particularly the smaller, fish in the taxation net. It is certainly time that some relief was afforded in this direction, '■■■arid I would suggest that when the Minister is revising the incidence of taxation this year serious consideration be given the question of removing the anomaly of a taxpayer paying income tax on sums paid in respect of land tax, income tax, and employment tax—actually double taxation, which is unjust. That this double taxation exists may be seen (especially by those not furnishing income-tax returns) by perusing sub-section 17 of paragraph (s) of the ■ instructions appended to the return of income (Form No. 3). which reads: "Common items not allowed as deductions (for exemption): ... 17 land tax, income tax, or employment, tax."—l am, etc., FAIR TAXPAYER.
