WOMEN'S HOCKEY

TECHNICAL TEAMS MEET

I . The defeat of the T.0.G.l senior I team by T.O.G. 2 at Kilbirriie was the most surprising result o£ Saturday's games in the competitions conducted by the Wellington Women's Hockey Association. Both teams seemed nervous and over-cautious in the early stages o£ the game, and the senior team suffered a severe setback in the first spell when T.O.G. 2 scored two goals in almost as many minutes. The scorers were Misses S. Jackson and G. Home. Despite desperate efforts in the second spell, T.O.G. 1 could not gain the upper hand, and although Miss E. Dunce netted a goal, this was offset by a further goal scored for T.O.G. 2 by Miss B. Mills. Hutt and Poneke put on an excellent display at Kilbirnie, and although Poneke finished with a 2-0 lead, there was little between the teams. A feature of the play was the excellent defence put up by the two Poneke fullbacks, Mrs. Harris and Miss E. McIndoe. But for their efforts Hutt would almost certainly have equalled the Poneke score. Miss J. Eiley scored Poneke's fiist goal after Mrs. Harris had paved 'the way. and Miss M. Buck netted the second. College Old Girls defeated Hutt United by 3 goals to 0 at Woburn. play b-ing on the whole uninteresting. The United back line, as usual, stood the team in good stead, keeping down the score For C.O.G. Miss H. McLellan (2) and Miss H. Morris scored goals. University suffered another defeat when they met Toa at Newtown Park. Miss Iggulsden scored Toa's first goal, but Miss Hilkie quickly equalised. In the second half University changed their forward line, and this appeared to weaken the team, for Toa broke through several times, Miss T. Parata 'scoring- three goals. Results were as follows:— Senior A. Poneke 2, Hutt 0. T.O.G (2) 3, T.O.G. (1) 1. C.O.Gi 3, Hutt United 0. Toa 4. University 1. i Training College, a bye. Senior B. Wener.ei 2, Wesley 2. St. Joseph's 1, T.O.G. 0. Upper Hutt 5, Hutt 0. Junior. P.TO.G. 1. Karori 1. Karori West 4, C.O.G. 0. T.O.G. 3. Y.W.C.A. 0. Huia v. University (to be played at a later date). 1 Intermediate. Toa 3, P.T.O.G. 0. T.O.G. 3, Hutt 0. - St. Joseph's 'v. Training College (play at a later date). 1 There "was no score in the match between St. Joseph's intermediate and the combined Huia team.
