SOCIAL MEETINGS

PARAPARAUMU WOMEN

i The Paraparaumu Women's Institute met in the Anglican Hall recently. There was a good attendance of old members, and six new members were enrolled. The president, Mrs. Delahunty, presided. The meeting took the form of a social afternoon, the hall being gaily decorated. Bowls of red, white, and blue flowers lent a note of patriotism and a Coronation spirit to the proceedings, while each member wore a red, white, and blue favour, made and presented by Mrs. Blake. Community Singing was much enjoyed, and Mrs. Burgess gave an interesting talk on London, and Miss Stocker a short talk on the coming drama festival. The produce stall was well stocked with a pleasing array of goods of ail kinds. The competition for the best bouquet of red, white, and blue flowers was won by Miss Sherring, Miss Passmore being second. "The Best Flower in My Garden" competition was won by Mrs. Delahunty with a fine bloom of iris stylosa. Afternoon tea was much appreciated, the hostesses being Mrs. Smart, Mrs. Blake, and Mrs. Mowbray. REIKORANGI-WAIKANAE. A meeting of the Reikorangi-Wai- j kanae Women's Institute, was held in the school hall, Reikorangi, and Mrs. G. A. Monk presided. Members were asked for suggestions for the arranging of programmes for future meetings. The monthly competitions resulted as follows:—"Best Bloom in Garden," Mrs. Hardie, 1; Mrs. T. Brown and Miss Hiffer, 2; Miss J. Brown, 3. "Something Made From a Given Recipe," Mrs. Webb, 1; Mrs. Walton, 2; Mrs. G. A. Monk, 3. A competition, which caused much amusement, was "Guessing the Original of Old Photographs." Each member had been asked to bring one of herself. Winners were: Mrs. T. Brown and Miss J. Clifton, 1; Miss Hiffer and Miss Stubbings, 2. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Clifton and Carter. BELMONT ACTIVITIES. The May meeting of the Belmont Women's Institute was presided over by Mrs. Bennett. She extended a very cordial welcome to all present. Mrs. Bennett was nominated to stand for the committee of the new federation, and Mrs. Bennett and Mrs. Moye were chosen as delegates to attend the meeting of the federation. Mrs. Prestige and Mrs. Faster were appointed joint conveners of the garden circle, and Mrs. Hoare as convener of the arts and crafts circle. A tableau, presented by the town members, was greatly appreciated. Those taking part were Miss Maddever (as "Britannia"), Miss Cristie ("Wales"),' Mesdames Spence ("Canada"), Cathro ("Australia"), Hill ("Scotland"), Brown ("Ireland"), Bennett ("South Africa"), Pauline Maye ("India"), and Ellesmore ("New Zealand"). A beautiful Maori mat was worn by Mrs. Ellesmore. Mrs. London was the accompanist. A talk by Miss- Cristie on the Coronation was interesting and instructive. A Maori song sung by Mrs. Love charmed the audience. Competitions were won by Mrs. Davis and Ena Nelson. . . Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, after which the New Zealand Anthem was sung. "ROYALTIES I HAVE MET." A meeting of the Silverstream Women's Institute was held recently and was well attended by members and visitors from several other institutes. The hall was gaily decorated in honour of Coronation and the meeting opened with the singing of the National Anthem. . A very interesting and appropriate talk was given by Lady Wilford on "Royalties I Have Met." She was presented with a posy of red, white, and blue flowers tied with the tri-colour ribbon, and also accorded musical honours. The competition for the best coat hanger was won by Mrs. Chapman-Taylor first, Mrs. Spackman second. A dainty afternoon tea was enjoyed, and the meeting concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
