HOSPITAL NURSES
IMPROVED CONDITIONS
(Special to the "Evenlnfl Post.")
WANGANUI, May 21,
A special committee was -recently appointed by N the Wanganui Hospital Board to inquire into the working hours and conditions of the nurses and domestic staff, and its suggestions were adopted by the board. None of the many nurses questioned complained of being overworked,- but they did complain about the social side of their lives. To remedy this and thus make for a more contented staff, late leave is to be given more frequently, the nurses are to be ** allowed to hold dances at the nurses' home occasionally and to invite friends. A wireless set is to be installed, and hot evening meals are to be provided during the winter. The salaries of fourth-year nurses are to be increased to £75 a year, and those of staff nurses to £100 a year. The board made it clear that on festive occasions no liquor, either at the home or in cars, would be tolerated.
