A MUSICAL EVENT
CHRISTCHURCH CHOIR'S
VISIT
..Towards the end of July the Christchurch Harmonic Society will visit Wellington. The Christchurch Harmonic Society is a very live musical organisation, and consists of three choirs, one of men, one of women, and one piixed, totalling 130 picked voices. It specialises, in choral music by modern composers, but by no means neglects that composed by such old masters as Bach. In Mr. V. C. Peters it has a conductor of originality, who has been trained in England under several prominent musicians, such as Dr. Malcolm Sargent. The visit to Wellington is not a money-making proposition—the fares of 130 singers will more than absorb any profit made on a concert. It is a gesture on the part of those people in Christchurch who want to see the performance of choral music given a stimulus throughout the Dominion, and they are prepared to make- sacrifices to attain this end. A recent, visit to Dunedin was a remarkable success from every point of view, arid Wellington's -welcome is likely to be just as hearty.
