"HIS LITTLE WORLD"
PROBLEMS OF CHILDHOOD
Miss Fitzgerald, principal of' Chilton St. James- School, was the speaker at an exceptionally interesting "mothers' day" meeting held by the Ngaio branch of the League of Mothers ■" recently Some of the problems of childhcdd and adolescence were mentioned, and suggestions made as to how to overcome them. The confidence of a child must be gained in the early years, said Miss Fitzgerald, and as a little child came home from school full of the doings and happenings oi his little world h sympathetic mother could do much 1" gain the confidence that would be of such "help in the adojescent years
The later life depended on the early handling, and the utmost that parent* •could do for their children was t" love them, guide them, and train them, tt the same time respecting their individuality. The infinite love of a mother could do much to give the child a nSble start. «,
The fears of childhood, which sometimes assumed such importance, were very often the result of casual remarks by adults or of the discussion of some subject in the child's presence, stated the speaker. Even though a small child might not understand all that was being said it took in things with its feelings and they left their impression. \
This interesting talk was listened to with great interest by the members. Mrs. Cummings and Mrs. Rollings both spoke in appreciation, and a posy of autumn flowers was presented to Miss Fitzgerald by. Mrs. Bringans. Two delightful solos were sung by Mrs. Christian. Five members were admitted into league fellowship. Afternoon tea was served.
