MANY APPLICATIONS
The applications received for the; position of New Zealand representative; on the London wool secretariat were given preliminary consideration by the New Zealand Wool Publicity Committee at a meeting, in Wellington.yesterday. It is expected that the anointment will be made next month. „;.;
After Uie meeting, the chairman Mr. H. M. Christie, M.P., stated that a very large number of applications had been received for the appointment as New Zealand representative on the London secretariat. By a process of elimination this number had been_ reduced until comparatively few remained. The committee had also advertised in London and arrangements had been made with the New Zealand representatives on the London Advisory Committee, Mr. R. S. Forsyth and Mr. G. H. Wood, to peruse the English applications. They would reduce these applications to a limited y number, and then cable their recommendations and the qualifications of the men they-recommended a,s suitable. It was-the desire of the committee to appoint' a; New Zealand man if possible, v'On receiving word from London'a further meeting Of the committee would be called immedi : ately and an appointment made...wit was hoped to have the matter settled
next month. ' The question of future elections of wdpl growers' representatives on the wool publicity committee was also considered. The meeting decided to adc-t the method of election used by the' New Zealand Meat Producers' Board—the electoral college system. The election would be held in conjunction with the meatvbpard election. This course had been adopted-to reduce expenditure to. the, lowest possible level. The committee also considered the question of expenditure in relation to certain research work of a practical nature which offered immediate assistance to wool producers generally. A definite scheme will be completed at an early date arid' full' information made available to the public. It is the -desire of the committee to obtain the fullest co-operation of producers generally, and it is intended to keep them advised of its activities.
