ATHLETES LEAVING OTAGO

DUNEDIN, This Day.
Mr. J. G. Leckie, who has accepted a teaching appointment in North Auckland, has won championship honours in boxing and athletics, being heavyweight champion boxer of New Zealand in 1927 and winning the New Zealand hammer-throwing championship with a throw of 148 ft OJin.in 1932. For a time he held the best New Zealander's performance of 151ft,6in. Mr. Val Newall, who leaves for Wellington to join the Police Force, is present javelin-throwing champion' of Otago. He was second in the New Zealand championship in 1933 and' third in 1936.
Mr. R. O. Johnston, for many years an outstanding competitor and athletic coach, is leaving for Christchurch. He was a member Of the New Zealand team to the, British Empire Games in 1930 and last year won the New Zealand men's diving championship at Dunedin.
