HUTT VALLEY TRIALS

6 SUCCESSFUL OUTING

About forty entries were received for the gun-dog trials conducted by the Hutt Valley Kennel Glut) .on' Mr. Ongley's property, at Waiwetu on Saturday afternoon.- The property is ideal for trials of this kind, as there is plenty; of-water and ■ obstruction, an well: as open land, such, as would be met under actual shooting conditions.

Among those competing : was., the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple), who entered.,two dogs, a Labrador retriever and a pointer.1 Most of the dogs entered were-English and Irish setters and Labrador retrievers, .but there were also .two pointers and a curly-coated retriever, a brown curly-coated retriever, and a. springer spaniel, in the trials. A number of new dogs were entered in the trials for the first time. The weather was beau-tifully-fine-and the outing Was enjoyed .by a large number of people. In the open .water .trial competition was very. keen, and .all the dogs did well, .there being .very- little between the first and last dogs. 'The judge was Mr.1 E. Hall.
