':■' : WANGANUI, This'bay. j "Although figures to show the,financial results of the Railway Department for the year ended March 31 are not yet completed, sufficient information is available for a fairly close approximation of the gross revenue '.. to be made," said the Minister of Railways (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) at a gathering of railwaymen oh Saturday night. "I have much pleasure in saying that this gross revenue shows-an increase of approximately £750,000, or 11 per cent. The .net revenue also will exceed the budgetary estimate."

"Polynesia has been ,a forgotten diocese for many years," said Bishop L. S. Kempthorne, Bishop yl of Polynesia, at the meeting of. the General Synod at Hamilton . (reports a local correspondent). He said that ever since his arrival; in the Polynesian diocese he and his staff had been trying to catch up the handicap of work, which ought .to have-been undertaken. 40 or 50 years ago* A mistake was often' made through confusing the. Melanesian and Polynesian dioceses, and this error was disastrous to the finances of Polynesia. The diocese of Polynesia extendedrqughly from Nauru and Ocean Islands in the.;yvfest-:to,Tahiti, and Marquesas .in :the east, and included Fiji, Tonga; Western'Samoa,'Rarotonga, and the Cook Islands. ' The bishop's procathedral was'at Suva, Fiji. .
