WIN FOR MIRAMAR
Miramar scored a decisive win over iPirates in the second-division game.at jLyall Bay on Saturday. In spite of la very hard and rough ground a fast match resulted, and many junior players were given a chance to show their formj the teams being changed several times during the progress of the match. The, teams took the field as follows:— .
Miramar.—Ashtoni Aldous, Baird, Minnick, Greenall, Cook, Buck, Troy, Hull, McDpnald. McManus, -Black, Marks. Dalley, McLennan. Pirates.—Wyness, Druary, Beale, Sherwood. Maisey. Baillie, McCarthy, Jenner, McCrae, Donnelly, Napier, Birkett, Miller, Titchbond, Kofoed. Miramar pressed the heavier Pirates team hard during the early stages, and it was not long before - Baird got across in the corner for Miramar. Troy converted.. Pirates rallied, and for some time were pressing down on the Miramar line, but faulty passing pr&vented an early' score. Eventually, however, j Beale forced his: way across the line, Titchbond converting. Not long afterwards a try by Sherwood gave Pirates the lead. Titchbond again converting. After a period of hard, rucking mlay the Miramar forwards broke tl/wough, and Buck scored between ,the posts. Troy . converted, making ' the score at half-time: Miramar 10,{Pirates 10.
Miramiar built up a big lead as the game progressed, the forwards breaking, avway. frequently. Hull and McDonald- scored tries for Miramar, and Cook dotted a goal. An accurate penalty Kick by Baillie lessened Miramar's -'lead, making the score: Miramar 20, Pirates 13. During the closing 'stages) Hull again dived across the line for Miramar, and Baird also scored a try, ("which was converted by-McLen-nan. The. final score was: Miramar 28, BiratesJ 13. .- Mr./A. de Clifton was the referee.
